Alex Shek - Co-Founder
Alexander Shek is an entrepreneur, athlete, coach, artist and father. Born and raised in the Washington, DC area, Alex infuses his ventures with influences of his experience growing up in an urban metropolis, as well as his Costa Rican and Chinese backgrounds. Creativity, individuality, and beauty pay homage to his cultures and are evident throughout his work.
With a passion for tennis and basketball, Alex’s approach to business parallels his approach on the court: opportunities are explored, assessed, and executed with focus, balance, and precision.
Leaning on decades of experience from successful endeavors in coaching, business and strategic development, and management consulting, he found his passion in scaling up businesses and empowering startups in the DC Metropolitan Area and Central America. Alex’s entrepreneurial spirit has led him to establish himself as a director, leader, innovator and executive in the sports industry. He has had a particular focus on community programming and development and building a sustainable culture. He has recently expanded into entertainment and fashion, as well as, non-profit work.
Despite his many professional pursuits, Alex's most important role is that of a father. He is committed to being a positive role model for his children and instilling in them the same values of hard work, determination, and community that have guided his own life.
Alex believes Rebelión Tennis Club will build community, celebrate culture and honor inclusivity.
Tommy - Co-Founder
Tommy was born and raised in the DC metropolitan area and was introduced to the game at a very young age. He gravitated toward tennis because of how it allowed him to express himself, and he has now been involved in the tennis world for over 25 years.
While loving the sport, Tommy also found the culture of tennis to be too exclusive and not accessible to everyone. Believing that tennis should be a game that can reach everybody no matter where they come from, Tommy feels tennis has the ability to break down barriers, promote diversity and celebrate uniqueness.
Drawing inspiration from Hip Hop, 90’s Basketball and Sneaker culture, Tommy wants to infuse Rebelión’s culture, designs and style with these passions.
As a tennis coach in the industry for the last 10+ years, Tommy enjoys teaching all ages and skill levels. Encouraging players to express themselves and their unique style, he has always created an environment where players can enjoy themselves and have a positive experience.
